Let Healthy Older Adults Run

چکیده
Increases in physical activity promote good health, yet exercise and particularly running are underprescribed for adults over age 65. The authors call more prescriptions, incentives, recognition endurance older adults, which would increase healthy lifespans inspire younger to run. They describe how new run-walk programs shoe technologies allow succeed at running, something not previously identified the medical literature.

Measuring Fluid Intelligence in Healthy Older Adults
The present study evaluated subjective and objective cognitive measures as predictors of fluid intelligence in healthy older adults. We hypothesized that objective cognitive measures would predict fluid intelligence to a greater degree than self-reported cognitive functioning. Ninety-three healthy older (>65 years old) community-dwelling adults participated. Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrice...
متن کاملPredicting cognitive decline in healthy older adults.
OBJECTIVE Authors performed a neuropsychological determination of which individuals in a group of community-dwelling, healthy elderly volunteers would develop cognitive decline. METHODS A group of 155 volunteers reporting good memory and thinking participated in a prospective study over 4 years. Authors monitored cognitive functioning and incidence of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)/Alzheimer...
متن کاملRest-Activity Patterns in Older Adults with Heart Failure and Healthy Older Adults.
The purpose of this investigation is to examine differences in rest-activity patterns and sleep characteristics in older adults with heart failure (HF) and healthy older adults. The sample included older adults with HF (n = 20) and a reference group of healthy older adults (n = 20). Traditional cosinor analysis was used to assess three parameters of rest-activity from wrist actigraphy data: amp...
متن کاملfMRI of healthy older adults during Stroop interference.
The Stroop interference effect, caused by difficulty inhibiting overlearned word reading, is often more pronounced in older adults. This has been proposed to be due to declines in inhibitory control and frontal lobe functions with aging. Initial neuroimaging studies of inhibitory control show that older adults have enhanced activation in multiple frontal areas, particularly in inferior frontal ...
متن کاملPrediction of cognitive decline in healthy older adults using fMRI.
Few studies have examined the extent to which structural and functional MRI, alone and in combination with genetic biomarkers, can predict future cognitive decline in asymptomatic elders. This prospective study evaluated individual and combined contributions of demographic information, genetic risk, hippocampal volume, and fMRI activation for predicting cognitive decline after an 18-month retes...
